At The Wood Norton we aim to provide the highest standards of service to all our guests making each stay an unforgettable one and offer the following for those with disabilities:
On Arrival
As you arrive at The Wood Norton please follow the signs to the reception where you will find dedicated disabled parking bays situated on the right hand of the hotels main entrance. There is an incline from the car park to the Pear Tree Mews courtyard which can be accessed via your vehicle for pick up and drop, however parking is strictly prohibited within the courtyard for the safety of all our guests. The main entrance and Pear Tree Mews driveways are slip resistant bonded resin with the courtyard being block paved.
Highest standards of service
Reception
The reception desk is located on the ground floor just inside the hotels main entrance. The main entrance consists of two wooden doors which when both opened (the right hand door can be secured to the main building via a hook and eye latch) gives a door aperture of 136cm allowing for easy wheelchair access over a very small door threshold. The reception desk is on the right as you enter the hotel and is 110cm high although check-in can also be completed whilst sitting in the lobby area if preferred. During check-in you will be offered a personal service which will include an explanation of the hotels facilities together with a familiarisation tour at your request. If you require any assistance with luggage or equipment please let reception know and a member of staff will be happy to assist you. The reception staff will also brief you on the hotels evacuation policy, please notify them during check-in if assistance will be needed in the event of an emergency.
The hotel has two wheelchairs available for guests to use within the hotel grounds or to assist with movement in the event of an evacuation. The following accessible aids are also available on a loan basis from reception; Wheelchair.
Bedrooms
The Wood Norton has two purposes built accessible bedrooms based in The Pear Tree Mews which are accessible via a small ramp directly from the courtyard through a door 110cm wide. One bedroom has a small separate lounge area with sofa bed for carer's or children and provides ample room for assisted dressing should it be required. Both rooms can be made up in a double bed or twin beds configuration. In the bedrooms there is transfer and turning space of at least 200cm on one side of the bed and at least 100cm on the other side of the bed with the flooring being short pile carpet. Reading lamps are provided and a telephone is available next to the bed on one side with other furniture being provided for your comfort. Furniture can be removed from the room upon request if more space is required. The bedrooms are fitted with emergency pull cords which link directly to the Duty Managers Pager and the Internal Fire Alarm.
In the event of an emergency these rooms have been fitted with both audible and visual warnings with evacuation advice being available on the back of your door. Should you need assistance during an evacuation a members of staff will assist you in vacating the premises in a safe manner.
Bathrooms
Each accessible bedroom has a wheelchair accessible bathroom which is accessed through a door 90cm wide with both left hand and right hand transfer options being available (transfer options are bedroom dependant). The bathrooms have tiled floors and are fitted with both fixed and drop down hand rails around the toilet, sink and shower with the shower area also benefiting from wall mounted drop down seating giving the option of either sitting or standing. The bathrooms are fitted with emergency pull cords which link directly to the Duty Managers Pager and the Internal Fire Alarm.
Indoor Public Areas
There are no slopes or steps to the public areas with the main hotel, however there are two very small door thresholds in the main corridor leading to the restaurant and disabled toilet. The restaurant, brasserie, bar and lounge facilities are all located on the ground floor and are easily accessible with a wheelchair having sufficient space between furniture allowing for unrestricted navigation.
Dining tables within the main restaurant are 76cm high and in the Brasserie 76cm high.
Accessible toilet facilities are located along the corridor towards the main restaurant and are of sufficient size should carer assistance be needed. The toilet is fitted with both fixed and drop down hand rails along with an emergency pull cord which linked directly to the Duty Managers Pager and the Internal Fire Alarm.
A lift is available should you require access to any other floor within the mail hotel building.
Outdoor Public Areas
The terrace can be accessed via the garden entrance to the left of the hotels main using wheelchair accessible pathways. The terrace consists of a patio area which is level paved having tables 77cm high. The hotel gardens are also fully available to explore by using the wheelchair accessible pathways.
Gym
Unfortunately the gym cannot be accessed using a wheelchair as there are 3 steps leading up to the entrance.
